Will’s Visit From An Old Friend

Will's has had a cold since Wednesday and when I picked him up from school on Friday, they told me that he'd only slept 45 minutes because he kept coughing. No biggie, we thought. He slept fine Friday night, but when he woke up on Saturday morning he was coughing pretty badly. We both thought it sounded like croup, so we took him to see the doctor yesterday. Nope, not croup. Even better - wheezing.

We were in shock. It's been 13 months since he's had wheezing, so our lucky little man gets to use the nebulizer again. 4x per day right now until his cough gets better. We see our regular doc on Friday for a recheck and to talk more about what this means. The on-call doc did say that since Will went this whole year without any wheezing he probably has a mild case of Reactive Airway Disease, which means he may be more likely to grow out of it by 2 or 3. Asthma isn't a done deal yet.

We broke down and bought Will his first DVD (Elmo's World: Pets) in an effort to make sitting with the nebulizer for 10-15 minutes more palatable. It's definitely working - he loves to sit and watch the puppies and kitties while he gets his treatments. We are so lucky to have such an easygoing kid; he really doesn't seem to mind the nebulizer at all. We know things could be much worse, but it's still not fun. Sigh.
